What type of comics do you like?

PostPosted by Casualism » Tue Aug 30, 2016 1:08 pm

I was thinking about XDD and all the story issues with it and was just wondering, where do you want me to go with comic creation? I'm pretty decided in terms of character creation and I think that's probably my strongest point. I was thinking you guys could help me with a decent idea for what should become of these characters in terms of comics. I was thinking adventure, but the characters don't really fit that genre in terms of group stability. Slice of Life is great and all but gets monotonous and you end up getting bored writing and probably reading it. Comic strips are not my forte and I'm terrible with actually funny jokes that aren't completely random.

tldr help

I like adventure
But Xdd characters would probably be in a dramatic comedy
Men dream, but Dreams have no value here.
What was first a bright light of hope is now a long night of captivity.
Lost in the Dark we surrender our minds and forget who we are.
But some of us have woken up.
They remind us that we all have a choice.
To stand, not kneel
To oppose, not obey
To live, not just exist

Speaking of which while we're at it, who is everyone's favorite characters in XDD and comics in general? I'm trying to figure out what kind of new characters I should add to make the comic more entertaining.

I got some recommendations for XDD.

Cool Guy - He's the cool guy in school. Basically a rich snob.

Party Gal - A girl who likes to part. She tries to hide her abusive life style with her father by pulling up a party girl facade.
(Basically MJ from Ultimate Spiderman)
"Life needs things to live." - Percy, Critical Role

I liked the SoL style but I'd rather it be a little less realistic with more random stuff (like the tech support guy arc or br2trans's CI).

The XDD characters are great (especially later ones), but they just go through bland scenarios. I also think some of the more generic characters (Tall Guy, Blueberry Girl, and Nerd Guy) should probably be removed and replaced with more entertaining characters.

then again, this is after watching 3 seasons of 30 rock

For XDD, I think you should follow the Amazing World of Gumball scenarios. Basically, characters go through wacky adventures.

While true, I want to entertain everyone, not just krazy.

Here are two types of situations I would do if I were writing XDD. You don't have to follow these ideas, I'm merely putting out my opinion.

A. Amazing World of Gumball route

Have base characters, and add side characters sometimes. Basically, a series of crazy wacky events happen in the town of XDD.

B. An actual story

You could do this one too. I would recommend taking inspiration from Stranger Things, Life is Strange, and other forms of media.
